In this episode of Hot, Healthy & Happily Ever After Hilary talks about couples often fail to negotiate and compromise in a way that empowers both partners. Often one partner is more assertive and the other more ‘laid back’ or ‘easy going,’ and over time these personality differences are reflected in the couple’s lifestyle. One partner becomes more visible and dominant- likely making all the important decisions and expressing their needs and feelings while the other has taken the back seat and is less visible–and even disappearing in the process.
Couples need to understand that all relationships need to make room for BOTH partners’ thoughts, feelings, needs, wants and points of view. When both partners are showing up and are fully represented, they are each more likely to have their needs met and to find greater satisfaction and even deeper intimacy with one another.
